A strong pelvic floor is important for overall health and well-being. It is the foundation of a variety of bodily functions for women and men, providing support to several organs and playing a crucial role in urinary and bowel continence, sexual function, and stability of the pelvis and spine. The day-to-day physical frustration resulting from a weakened pelvic floor can have wide-ranging impacts including bladder issues, bowel pain, chronic low back and hip pain, sexual frustration, and social anxiety.

I believe that compassion, empathy and understanding are critical to the healing experience. I know that many symptoms that are often chalked up to pregnancy, postpartum, or age are treatable and improvable. Whether you are male or female, pregnant or postpartum, or suffering from age-related or undiagnosed pain, pelvic floor can be steadily strengthened through a tailored, individualized treatment plan.

I am here and I am honored to be a part of your healing journey.

Client Testimonials

  • After several weeks... the same surgeons who had been advocating my surgery advised me to wait and continue my work with Maria for the foreseeable future.

For approximately 12 months, I had severe pain in my hip. I could barely walk and the situation was impacting all areas of my life. I was scheduled to have my hip replaced (again) when as a last resort I decided to try all the new "exotic" therapies being offered at Summit. After several weeks of receiving a combination of treatments including cryo, sauna, compression, infrared and a weekly session with Maria, the same surgeons who had been advocating my surgery advised me to wait and continue my work with Maria for the foreseeable future. Maria has been a great adjunct to Summit therapies, and with her manual skills of fascia release, stretches, strengthening, and understanding body mechanics, tissue release and healing, I have come out as a happier and more active person.

The facilities and staff also makes the whole experience very different from regular physical therapy offerings I have encountered. I can't recommend Summit and Hopp Therapy enough.

  • I began seeing Maria after my occasional leaking issues mainly during exercise became more pronounced.

From the outset, Maria asked detailed questions and after a comprehensive examination, she made clear recommendations involving a combination of pelvic floor therapy and use of the Emsella chair. I am a lifelong runner and consider myself physically fit, but after only a couple of weeks of working with Maria I was able to feel and engage my pelvic floor in an entirely different way improving my posture, balance, and regaining control over my bladder. While the exercises Maria guides you through seem deceptively simple, they are incredibly effective at focusing your breath, attention, and strength on the areas of weakness.

Maria also provided therapy treatments to manage an unexpected and painful episode of hemorrhoids. The therapeutic techniques she used helped me manage my pain and promote healing. Once the healing began, Maria was able to help me resume pelvic floor treatments with additional exercises to help prevent and treat future recurrences. And all of this without resorting to surgery or other significant medical interventions. She is amazing and I can't recommend her highly enough.

  • Maria is a fantastic therapist who is always upbeat and a pleasure to work with.

Maria is a pelvic floor specialist and is well versed in the special exercises that will help me activate & strengthen my core following an involved surgery and long layoff from activity. Maria understands the nuance, and pace it takes to get me back on track to enjoy the recreational hobbies I so enjoy.  I feel safe with her approach, I never feel she puts me in harm's way, and I believe she is genuinely invested in my optimal recovery. The facility is top notch as well.  I highly recommend working  with her.

  • Maria has healing hands.

Having pelvic floor issues made me feel anxious and vulnerable, but Maria’s empathy, expertise and education put me at ease and empowered me. With her guidance, I have regained a connection to my breath and pelvic region that I have not had for years. I am grateful to have her as part of my medical team but equally in our community. Thank you, Maria!

I grew up in a small fishing village in Southern Sweden overlooking the Baltic Sea. My journey to become a physical therapist and my passion for helping people began early in life, after my beloved grandfather had a massive stroke. Watching his healing process inspired me to lend a helping hand to people in need. I started PT school in 2004 and have pursued my dream of wanting to be a great listener and healer ever since.

In my years working in PT clinics and pediatric settings, I came to understand that the pelvic floor remains largely overlooked. What sometimes presents as an orthopedic issue is often compounded by a pelvic floor issue. It is my goal to look holistically at the individual.

I’ve given birth to three children and live an active lifestyle and know the frustration of leakage and the inadequacy of traditional care. I began to do more research and understood how pelvic floor therapy can treat a variety of issues in both men and women. I discovered there were ways I could help.

Being diagnosed with lupus in early 2023, I experienced firsthand a long and often grueling recovery. I dealt with dismissive doctors and endless tests. Eventually I found a team who listened and developed a treatment plan that was intrisic to me.

My first Pelvic Floor course opened up new insights and treatment methods for the issues some of my PT patients complained of, including issues I experienced myself. It became an “Aha!” moment and it changed my life both physically and professionally. My passion for promoting the awareness and importance of pelvic health to women and men started from that day. I have since completed many courses and certifications while being mentored by experienced pelvic floor therapists to learn how the pelvis interacts with the rest of the body. The majority of my practice was completed in the NYU Pelvic Health Department.

I have found my greatest professional fulfillment in pelvic health. I am honored to be able to do the work I do.
